Stop parading yourself as acting PDP Chairman – Court warns Sheriff

A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has ordered the former acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and the National Secretary of the party, Professor Adewale Oladipo from parading themselves as the key officials of the party. The interim injunction was contained in a statement signed by the presiding judge, Justice A.M.Liman.
According to the statement, all members of the National Working Committee of the party sacked during the Saturday’s convention should not submit their names to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as officers or candidates of the party pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice brought by the Party.
The injunction also ordered that the newly constituted National Caretaker Committee headed by former Governor of Kaduna State, Sen. Ahmed Markarfi be recognized by INEC in all matters pertaining the conduct of elections for political offices and the submission of the party’s list of Candidates for any elections to be conducted pending the hearing and determination of the application.
DAILY POST recalls that the sheriff-led leadership of the PDP was on Saturday sacked at the party’s National Convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The party also constituted a caretaker committee headed by a former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi and was saddled with the mandate to elect a new National Working Committee, NWC, within three months.
Meanwhile, A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Monday declared as illegal the newly constituted caretaker committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Justice Ibrahim Buba, while making the pronouncement directed the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, to ensure that the newly constituted members of the committee do not take over the position of the party’s acting National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.
The party had also mandated the committee to elect a new National Working Committee, NWC, within three months.
