NIGERIAN ARMY ON THE RELIGIOUS VIOLENCE IN PANDOGARI NIGER STATE
PRESS RELEASE BY 31 ARTILLERY BRIGADE OF 1 DIVISION NIGERIAN ARMY ON THE RELIGIOUS VIOLENCE IN PANDOGARI NIGER STATE
At about 6pm yesterday (Sunday), 29 May 2016, one Mr Methodus Chimaije Emmanuel, a 24 year old
trader based in Pandogari, Rafi LGA of Niger State was attacked and
killed by a mob in the town on allegation of posting a blasphemous
statement about Prophet Muhammad on the social media.
Troops of 31
Artillery Brigade of 1 Division, Nigerian Army on operation MESA quickly
intervened and restored law and order while a dusk to down curfew was
imposed in the town.
Early this morning however, the rioters embarked on further violence, looting shops and blocking the Lagos - Kaduna Road, a major artery connecting the northern and southern parts of the country. Again, troops in conjunction with the personnel of Nigeria Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) took control of the situation to forestall escalation of violence and any threat to the peace in the town.
Regrettably, one
church, one house and a shop were burnt while 25 other shops were looted
following the violence. Three other persons including a personnel of
the NSCDC also lost their lives. Some arrests have been made in
connection with the violence and the suspects handed over to the the
police. The military and other security agencies are currently embarking
on confidence building patrols in all nooks and crannies of the town.
As part of the
measures to de-escalate tensions and ensure a lasting peace in the town,
the military is working with the Local Government Council authorities
and community leaders, including the Kagara Emirate Council to pacify
all aggrieved parties and build on the peace so far established.
However, while
the military will continue with its current non-violent approach to
maintaining peace in Pandogari town, it will not take kindly to any
unscrupulous element who would attempt to visit violence on innocent and
law abiding Nigerians. The general public is therefore warned to abide
by the conditions of the curfew so far emplaced. All law abiding
citizens are enjoined to go about their legitimate businesses without
any fear of intimidation. They are to be rest assured that the security
forces will remain fully present to guarantee their safety and security
across the length and breadth of the town, within their rules of
engagement.

UEFA CHAMPIONS CUP: Juanfran Writes Atleticos Over Penalty Missed (text)
"Hello Atleticos,
"I have asked the club to address all of you with this letter to tell you everything I feel.
"I will never forget your displays of affection when I came to ask for your forgiveness. Seeing my tears reflected in the faces of the thousands of Atleticos that packed that end of the stadium helped me cope with the tremendous sadness I felt in those hard times. As well as the support of my teammates, coaches, and all the people that makes this big family.
"I also want to thank you for always believing in us and, above all, for proving that being an Atletico is something very special, different, and that our heart beats stronger than any other.
"Two years ago, I told you that we would return to a final, now, I tell you that Gabi, our captain, will lift the Champions League sooner or later, and we will celebrate it all together in Neptuno.
"I love you very much and GO ATLETI."

Wike’s Landmarks, A Big Question Mark On Amaechi’s Eight Yrs In Office – Obuah
Despite efforts
to put behind the huge mistakes and setback suffered in the hands of past
leaders especially during the eight years of Chibuike Amaechi’s regime as a
result of bad governance, the amazing landmark achievements of Governor Nyesom Wike
in the last one year keep re-opening the old wound, constantly reminding us
where we should have been if attention was given to the real needs of the
people.
The chairman,
Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bro. Felix Obuah
stated this while assessing Governor Nyesom Wike’s achievements after one year
in office.
The State PDP
Chairman said by showing rare frugality and prudent management of State
resources, despite shortfall in internal revenue accruals due to harsh economic
realities of the time and very meagre federal monthly allocations, yet
delivering on amazing democratic dividends, Gov. Wike’s one year in office has proved
beyond doubts that the previous administration with all the excess funds at its
disposal was a rip-off.
This, according
to Bro. Obuah is no more a matter of politics or outpour of insincere political
encomiums which were rife while we were being milked dry and our collective
wealth personalized and wasted on unnecessary goodwill to remain politically
relevant; the track record of Wike’s achievements is an eloquent testimonial of
good governance and democracy in action.
The visibly
joyful State Party Chairman said the PDP is happier for His Excellency’s
exemplary leadership, describing his stewardship after one year in office as remarkable.
Also admirable
and commendable is Governor Wike’s courage, open-mindedness and progressive
disposition to forge on with his vision for the State despite distractions.
“By his unruffled
nature and responsible handling of all opposition and, or attacks, Wike has not
only posed a challenge to the political class on material and human capital
management but also expanded our political lexicon with “Wikeism’ as a
management strategy, it will therefore benefit us all the more irrespective of
political leanings or ideologies or ethnicity if this young man, the People’s
Governor is given the needed support and co-operation to take our dear State to
the desired height,” Bro. Obuah appealed.

Later, filtered in that he was compelled to do so after the actress dragged him to the police over his statements which she said was affecting her business. The reports claim he was made to sign an undertaking never to threaten the actress again. This undertaking is what precipitated the unexpected public apology. Now, Mr Egbegbe claims all those reports are not true. In an interview with Encomium, the CEO of Ebony films expressed dissatisfaction about the publication. He added that the statement is baseless and untrue
In his words:
“To start with, I don’t know anything about that. And to say that I signed any undertaking before the Commissioner of Police because of what happened between Toyin Aimakhu and myself is a lie. Also anybody saying that I prostrated for her before the CP or any where should come forward with a proof. How can I be prostrating for her? It’s an unfounded rumour. |

Yesterday, veteran Ghanaian born actor,
Majid Michel shared an social media, experience he had with God and how
he recently came to the realization that God truly exists. According to
him, after staring at the sky the night before, he had an awakening of
sorts and figured out that God’s existence was real unlike what he had
been led to believe.
He wrote:
“Lord God I have never spoken to you.
But now I want to say…how do you do? You see God, they told me you
didn’t exist and like a fool I believed all this. Last night from
standing outside, I saw your sky and I figured right then they had told
me a lie.
“Had I taken time to see the things
you made I’d have known they weren’t calling a spade a spade. I wonder
God if you’ll take my hand. Somehow I feel that U’d understand. Funny I
had to come to this hellish place before I had time to see your face.
“Well
I guess there isn’t much more to say but I’m sure glad God I met you
today. Like the zero hour will soon be here but I’m not afraid since I
know you are near. The signal… well…God I’ll have to go. I like you lots
I want you to know. Looks like this will be a horrible fight who knows,
I may come to your house tonight.
“Though I wasn’t friendly to you
before I wonder God if U’ll wait at your door. Look I’m crying, I’m
shedding tears I’ll have to go now God, goodbye…. Strange…now, since I
met you, I’m not afraid to die . #LEADERSHIP.”

EFCC recovers N900m from Jonathan’s ex-aide, Dudafa
The money was found in one of Dudafa’s accounts, which was immediately frozen, the Punch reports. An anti-graft source hinted that, “Dudafa told us that he had no money; so, we began to investigate his accounts. We then found N900m that was hidden in one of his accounts through the connivance of his account officer.
“Dudafa initially denied owning the account but when he was confronted with evidence, he had no choice but to admit. Some people, who had paid money into the account based on Dudafa’s instructions, even came forward to say that the account indeed belonged to Dudafa. The N900m will be used as evidence against him in court.”

In one year, Buhari/APC ruined Nigeria’s economy – Fayose
Mohammadu Buhari, the country’s economy was ruined so much that States could no longer pay workers’ salaries, stating that millions of jobs were lost, prices of essential commodities skyrocketed to the extent that
Nigerians could no longer afford common tomato to cook and the middle
class wiped away completely.
Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said:
“Despite President Buhari’s electoral promise to reduce petrol pump
price from the N87 per litre that he met it and make life more
bearable for Nigerians, he increased the price of petrol to N145,
increased electricity tariff in spite of lack of power supply.”
He said; “food scarcity last experienced when Buhari was military Head
of State between 1983 and 1985 has returned to the country, with
Nigerians being unable to feed.”
The governor who said Nigerians should remove party, ethnic and
religious sentiments and ask themselves what they have benefitted in
the last one year, reminded Nigerians that, “Foreign Reserve was $28.6
less than N200, petrol was N87 per litre and most importantly, one bag
of rice was N8, 500 and power generation was over 5,000MW when Buhari
assumed office.
The statement reads in part: “Today, power generation is less than
Hide quoted text
1,400, Foreign Reserve has reduced to $26.5 billion, dollar is now
over N350, petrol has increased to N145 per litre and one bag of rice
is now over N15, 000!”
“I read the president’s speech and all that I saw was a president
still sounding like he was campaigning for votes more than one year
after winning election. It is disappointing that the President’s
speech was once again about promises, not about what has been done.
“Not even a mention of one kilometre of road tarred by this
administration, no single job was created except the ones created in
Central Bank of Nigeria for their cronnies and children, not a single
megawatt of electricity generated. This is shameful.
“The reward Buhari gave to Nigerians for electing as president was to
increase petrol pump price by N58.50 and get the Vice President, Prof
Yemi Osinbajo to justify the increment by saying Nigeria was broke!
“In other words, President Buhari increased petrol pump price because
the country was broke and it needed to shore up its revenue base. The
N58.50 added to the previous pump price of N86.50 was an Indirect Tax
imposed on each litre of petrol purchased by Nigerians.
“It is even more worrisome that we have a presidency that is not
coordinated. The president says one thing; his vice says another while
his ministers also singing discordant tunes. This is a clear sign of
cluelessness and unpreparedness for governance.
“I cannot but agree with the position of former President Olusegun
Obasanjo, Obiageli Ezekwesili and others that President Buhari has no
clue economically. The situation of Nigeria today is like the visually
impaired leading those who can see. But I warned Nigerians, and I am
still warning Nigerians now that as it happened in 1984 when our
President was a military Head of State, the economy of Nigeria may
collapse!
“Therefore, as we look forward to the end of the honeymoon of Buhari’s
presidency, I wish to state that if supposed men of honour are going
underground because of possible harassment and intimidation, I, Peter
Ayodele Fayose will not; because this is our fatherland.
“Most importantly, those regarding President Buhari as a saint should
know that he is not. The president is not also the Almighty God that
cannot be questioned. After all, the beauty of democracy is in
credible opposition.
“Today, I have expressed my mind concerning the one year of Buhari’s
presidency as I did before the election. This I have done basically to
remind Nigerians that I told them then, and it is happening now.
“May God be with the President and bless Nigeria.”
