Hear him, Very recently, I was hanging out with some of my associates in my house when one of them started reeling out all that is wrong with Naija; the kind of impunity stealing that has taken place. “A never ending story”, I managed to murmur, before one of them exclaimed, “Na God hand we dey”. If we leave everything in God’s hand, what are we doing to change the blatant rape of the future of our youths or the obnoxious impoverishment of the masses? For too long, we sat and watched the leadership immunize themselves with impunity, watched sycophants masturbate them with mediocrity whilst we, the people, clapped and sang for most of these riffraff for a cup of rice and beans waiting for our turn to join the chopping train. Now that the economy is nose diving with alacrity, some still have the guts to call God’s name when we have not shown good faith in fighting to change the status quo or demand what is ours by right? Humm Mumu people. The beauty of standing up for your rights is that others will see you standing and be emboldened to stand up as well. A lot of the times, most of us know what is right and what should not be; in fact, everyone, in our different corners and crannies, does one side talk or the other, as to how things should be, without really taking a stand openly. This, perhaps, is a result of not wanting to be stigmatized or victimized but hey, it is said that if you don’t stand for something you’re truly and fully persuaded of, you will fall for anything and when you do fall, don’t complain. Sadly, my people are neither even ready nor willing to either fight for their right or die defending it; they’d rather leave it in God’s hand. Bullshit! Which God. “Na God hand we dey” would mean that God has only left us His Naija Creation in the care (I don’t care) of a stupendously greedy few to suffer. How come God is watching them do untold damage to both the present and posterity? I will like to ask….in whose hands are countries or people who take care of their own, who have regard for human life and welfare of their citizens, particularly the indigent, vulnerable ones? Na devil hand those ones dey? Yeye dey smell. Of course I know that God does not, cannot identify with the kind of recklessness that some of these vagabond assassins called leaders exhibit. Therefore, rather than lamely resign to fate, we all should take the bull by the horn and take a stand against the destruction of our tomorrow today. They do not hold any good intentions for the people, no, they do not at all! God punish evil people. My Bloody Take? Standing up for others is the right thing to do, because every human goes through periods of invincibility and vulnerability. If we don’t stand up for those who are vulnerable, who would then stand up for us in our vulnerable seasons? Let the strong among us strengthen the weak. It’s indeed an insurance for every one’s wellbeing. How can anyone be at peace when others around aren’t? Na pickin wey say him mama no go sleep, Na him go sleep? The whole nine yards was wrong with me …..I literally was so weak …my drips had to be rushed until I got stabilised …. Energy was a luxury …and I only used the little I had to communicate with family and the doctors(apologies to work and friends ,I left incommunicado) ……However after a really bad night of stooling and vomiting bile …I had …had enough of the hospital especially because the nurse on duty that night was lazy (if not for my sister,I wonder what my story will have been) anyways I couldn’t sleep and immediately I saw my sister move …I asked her to call my dad(who literally left everything to just come sit with me everyday) to come take me home ….alas all his numbers and my stepmums phones was off …..They say the only way to get over a really bad pain is to feel something worse (true ),… The energy I got that morning was amazing … Discharged myself despite the doctors refusal …. Nigeria's Corruption Goes Beyond Money- Obasanjo

” The Minister of Finance recently announced that the 2016 budget deficit may be increased from the current N2.2 trillion in the draft document before the National Assembly to N3 trillion
“It will be recalled that a few years ago we rescued Nigeria from its creditors with the deal in which the Paris Club of sovereign creditors wrote off USD 18 billion of debt.
“It was Africa’s largest debt cancellation. Nigeria then used windfall earnings from oil export to pay off another USD 12 billion in debts and arrears,” he said.
The president, who identified corruption as the greatest single challenge facing the country, said it was one of the worst legacies of misrule and bad governance,
“We set up the ICPC and the EFCC to tackle it head on. Today, corruption drains billions of dollars from our economy that cannot afford to lose even a million dollars.
“It seems we are just beginning the fight against corruption afresh.‎ Until recently, it seems corruption had returned with a vengeance, taking seat at the very heart of government.
“We must kick corruption out because it destroys almost everything and I am not talking about corruption of money; corruption of attitude, nepotism, favouritism, they are corruption in different forms, ‘’ he said.

Nigeria Wants To Borrow $9 Billion From World Bank, ADB, Others

Nigeria is considering asking the World Bank, the African Development Bank and other international organizations for help to plug a hole in this year's budget created by the collapse in crude oil prices. The government said it is looking to borrow as much as $9 billion to fund its cash-starved economy.

The 75% plunge in crude prices to around $33 per barrel means Nigeria is now losing money on some of the oil it pumps.
Nigeria is the second major oil producing country, after Azerbaijan, to admit it might need emergency financing because of low crude prices.
Nigeria, Africa's largest economy, is also the continent's biggest oil producer. The sector accounts for about 35% of GDP, 75% of government revenue and 90% of export earnings.
Its currency is plummeting, with foreign exchange dealers offering much higher rates than the official 199 nair per dollar. The government has been burning through its foreign currency reserves, which fell to $28 billion at the end of January from $43 billion two years ago.
And its budget deficit is growing fast. The government wants to invest in big infrastructure projects and make the country less dependent on oil.
The deficit is now expected to reach 3 trillion naira ($15 billion) in 2016, up from a previous estimate of 2.2 trillion.
Nigeria is also suffering from frequent power cuts and fuel shortages because it doesn't have enough capacity to refine it own crude.

The finance ministry denied reports that it has already asked for emergency cash, but said it is considering a World Bank loan as one way of funding the deficit.
"The truth is that Nigeria... has indicated an intention to borrow 1.8 trillion naira principally for investment in capital projects to stimulate the economy," Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun said in a statement.
Nigeria is exploring the option of borrowing from multilateral organizations such as the World Bank and AFDB, as well as the Export-Import Bank of China, because they offer lower rates of interest than other lenders, she said.
Officials from the African Development Bank visited Nigeria last week.
Nigeria is a member of OPEC, and has been pushing for the Saudi-led oil cartel to cut production to support prices.
OPEC decided in 2014 to wage a price war with low cost producers in the U.S. and elsewhere in a bid to defend market share. Many OPEC countries are still making money at these prices but others are losing.
Nigeria's average production costs are estimated at about $31 a barrel.

PDP Asks Buhari To Stop Blackmailing Judiciary

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned in strong terms statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari on his alleged attack on Judiciary in Nigeria.
The PDP said the remarks by President Buhari amounted to a ploy to blackmail the Judiciary and in the process influence courts’ decision on cases pending at different election tribunals in the country.
The Acting National Chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus said this during the inauguration of the Caretaker Committee of Imo state chapter of PDP.
President Buhari had in a statement weekend descended on the Judiciary, which he described as a major headache in the battle by his government to fight corruption.
However, Secondus described Buhari’s remarks as a direct affront on the statutorily guaranteed independence of the judiciary.
It expressed worries that Buhari even went as far as alluding to Court Judgments on his cases years back to make comparison, more so as the cases had long been settled at the level of the Supreme Court.
The Acting Chairman urged the judiciary, which he described as the last hope of the common man, to continue to assert its independence and not allow itself to be deterred from upholding justice and the rule of law, no matter the pressure.
He said, “While we express worries on the attacks on the judicial arm of government, we are aware that they are intended to blackmail and stampede the judiciary to deliver judgments against the PDP in various pending cases involving our party and some of our leaders in the courts.
“We urge the judiciary to ensure that it adequately guards its flanks from all external influences. We also caution the executive to focus on governance, while respecting the constitutionally guaranteed principle of separation of powers by allowing the judiciary and the legislature indeed, all statutory arms of government to freely operate within the bounds provided by our laws.
“Finally, the PDP wishes to call on critical stakeholders to appreciate the fact that the Judiciary, in its nature as an arbiter, cannot join issues with the other arms, and such needs to be defended from the brazen blackmail by the APC-led Government”
The chairman charged the inaugurated committee to be fair, just and balanced while accommodating every interest and restore Imo PDP to winning ways, especially as APC government in the state has failed woefully.

Jonathan’s Weapons Were Substandard, Outdated, Refurbished – Lai Muhammed

The Nigerian government has said that whatever weapons that were procured by the Jonathan Administration for the military to prosecute the war against terrorism were substandard and could not have been responsible for the string of successes recorded by the military in recent times.

In a statement issued in Abeokuta on Monday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, described as “unfortunate and unsubstantiated” the statement credited to former President Goodluck Jonathan attributing the recent successes in the war to the weapons bought by his administration that were delivered after he had left office.
Mr. Jonathan tweeted about the weapons last week.
“The current administration continues to fight them with the weapons we acquired and collectively I am confident we will eradicate them,” he said referring to Boko Haram.
Mr. Mohammed said the present administration owes it a duty to put the record straight, especially because the issues raised by the former president are of public interest and borders on national security.
”The weapons, munitions and equipment which the former President said he bought were refurbished and lacked the basic components and spare parts. Additionally, the ammunition bought for both high calibre and small weapons have mostly expired, incompatible with weapons and grossly inadequate,” Mr. Mohammed said, according to a statement signed by his media aide, Segun Adeyemi.
”It is pertinent to state that the ammunition he was referring to were back loaded because they explode within the barrel when fired, thus leading to deaths and injuries among soldiers.”
Mr. Mohammed said that the troops also lacked the much-needed lift and operational vehicles and other equipment which they needed for an effective prosecution of the war, until the present Administration ameliorated the situation.
”The situation was so pathetic that soldiers were often transported in Civilian JTF vehicles, civilian vehicles, trailers and water tankers when going to the theatres of operation. The revelations on the sorry state of things in the past, which have emanated from the investigative panel so far, point clearly to the kind of legacy bequeathed to this administration by the past government.
”That explains why troops remained largely static and were unable to effectively deploy to completely rout the Boko Haram terrorists in all their known enclaves. The high level of casualties sustained by our gallant soldiers was most unprecedented and cannot be compared to any known military operations in recent times, all because of the terrible state of affairs suffered by the military under the Jonathan Administration,” the minister said.
Mr. Mohammed said “because former President Jonathan could not understand how credible and dedicated leadership could impact positively on the morale and performance of troops, he has chosen to denigrate the system for the unprecedented feat that was achieved within the first six months of the Buhari Administration – something that he could not achieve in all of six years!”
”It is also clear, as has been shown so far by the outcome of the panel probing past arms deals, that the purchase of substandard weapons apparently resulted from the massive corruption that enveloped the deals, the kind of horrifying graft that saw the purchase of refurbished choppers that lacked rotors, or fighter jets that could not be deployed to the theatre of war because they were not up to par.
”The needless loss of lives of many of our gallant troops, resulting from the lack of standard weaponry and low morale in the past, is not a matter to be trivialized under any circumstance,” the Minister said.
